‘Go to Pakistan’, teacher tells 2 Muslim students in class! Investigation into allegations started, transfer done

Shimoga. After Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, now a teacher in Karnataka has created a controversy by allegedly asking two Muslim students to ‘go to Pakistan’. The incident took place in Tipu Nagar, Shivamogga, where the accused teacher scolded two Class 5 students and allegedly told them that India was not their country as it belonged to Hindus. The Karnataka School Education and Literacy Department has started an investigation against the accused teacher Manjula Devi, who has also been transferred pending the departmental inquiry. However, he has denied this allegation.

The department’s action came after Shivamogga local JDS leader A Nazrullah lodged a complaint against the teacher. It was alleged that while scolding two students, Manjula told them that India is not your country. According to a report in the Indian Express, the teacher said that ‘this is a country of Hindus. You should go to Pakistan. The students informed their families about the incident, who contacted local leaders. After the complaint was registered, a block-level preliminary inquiry was initiated against the accused teacher and its report has been submitted to the state education department.

The children were uncontrollable in the class, the teacher was trying to control them.
Parameshwarappa CR, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (Shivamoga), told about the incident that ‘We had received the complaint on Thursday. Action was initiated against the teacher on the basis of preliminary investigation by the Block Education Officer. According to the report, during the preliminary investigation, the teacher said that she was trying to control the students as they were unruly in class and were not respecting her. Block Education Officer B. Nagaraju told media persons that she was a Kannada language teacher and had been a regular employee for the last 26 years and had been teaching in the school for the last eight years.

Appropriate action will be taken after the investigation report.
Nagaraju said that the teacher has been transferred to another school and there will be further departmental inquiry into the matter. The Block Education Officer also said that after the investigation report comes, appropriate action will be taken against the teacher. The incident comes days after a teacher in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, was caught on camera asking students to kill their ‘Muslim’ classmate. A teacher in Delhi was also booked for allegedly making communal remarks against students from the minority community in his class.
